GEMMA REDUX

Gemma Redux designer, Rachel Dooley created her first piece while taking a break from studying for the bar exam, while in Law school.

Before that, shes studied mechanical engineering and material science at the University of Michigan. She realized jewelery was her calling once her pieces began to be featured in Harper's Bazaar and brought her a celebrity following. So not only is she a genius, SUPER WOMAN, but her jewelery is incredibly unique and beautiful.

ANKLE PARTY

Get Ready! I have a feeling there are going to be quite a few ankle parties going on this summer:

 Photos: Style.com

Rag and Bone's pushing anklets in their denim campaign, Tommy Ton shot some bold ones and Ms. Ashley Olsen has been spotted with one around each ankle at various events. The Olsen ladies offer their $4000 version for the row on Net-a-porter. This price is a little steep for me, but check back soon for details on a more affordable version.

Trinkets

My new bracelet arrived in the mail today from my friend Dana Dallal's jewelery line, Selwyn. Thanks Dana!  I love the fact that she uses actual pieces like hex nuts from the hardware store and then has them gold plated. Click here for my full post about her jewelery line. She has since added some new pieces to her etsy store, so be sure to check it out before they're all gone!

Isak & Inger

Mariel Gonzalez is another example (see the post below about Dana) of one of those super creative and talented people I went to fashion school with. She has created a beautiful line of accessories called Isak and Inger featuring beautiful statment necklaces, sweater knit/leather mittens, hand made bags and more. She uses recycled materials whenever possible. Check out her full product offering here.

Selwyn by Dana Dallal

What happens when you go to fashion design school? Well you devote a lot a hours to painstakingly laborious sewing and pattern drafting and you also meet a bunch of ultra creative and talented friends. Dana Dallal is a good friend of mine who I've shared hours of madness with at the Ryerson University sewing labs. She then became a colleague of mine at our first "real job" at a fashion company here in Montreal until she moved on to bigger and better things in London, England. Dana has just launched her own jewlery company "Selwyn" named after one of the founders of the Century Guild of Artists, Selwyn Image. Selwyn was most famously known for his stained glass work but also co-edited the Guild's magazine "Hobby Horse," hailed as the first magazine to be entirely dedicated to design. Dallal wanted to dedicate her line to Selwyn,  whose contributions to the design world is often overlooked by historians.

All Choked Up

Elin Kling x H&M

{Photo -  a fashion affair-}

I remember when I was about six, my mum made me a little black velvet choker with a cameo button at the front that fastened together with velcro. I would wear it with my favourite floral dress and definitely thought i was on the cutting edge of fashion. Nine years later and my old look sounds pretty current again....Chokers are back in a big way, but this time they are more sleek, modern and industrial looking than my velvet number (although i definitely would still sport it if i had it). Elin Kling recently offered her signature look metal choker as part of her Elin Kling x H&M line this past year  - unfortunately the line wasn't out in Canada :( . Elin and Style bloggers alike have been getting all choked up lately.

Self Made

I met the designers behind the cool Montreal brand Self Made at a Puces Pop event. They were really nice and chatted with me while i was completely mesmerized by their incredible rings. I finally decided on one, but vowed to come back for more. They have an online shop where they have a few of their rings up for sale along with a bunch of other accessories and cool t-shirts. They had a tonne of other rings at the sale which aren't on the website (i hope they post them soon!) But they also take appointments if you happen to live in Montreal. Here are just a few of their rings:

Hand Ring

Oh how I love clever things like this. Especially when I would actually want to wear them too, not just that i think the concept is great. I think it would've been extra great if the hand ring was also wearing a hand ring. Anyway, this was found at my new obsession luxirare.com
More to come about this fantastic website shortly...

Power Rings: IMOGEN BELFIELD JEWELLERY

I'm drawn to any piece of jewellery that looks like an ancient relic dug up from the centre of the earth. This is why Imogen
Belfield is my new favourite line. Those captain planet kids had it right - a great ring can be very empowering. I wish i could have a real power ring, but I consider these the next best thing:

from imogenbelfield.com

And these are a few of my own treasured rings:

This one i scored at a vintage store in Montreal on Bernard St for $10. I love the melted away skull face, it makes me wonder if it belonged to a huge biker dude and how many people have been knocked out by it.
