Biocouture - Grow Your Own Clothes

Suzanne Lee is a senior research fellow at Central St. Martins in fashion and textiles. She grows microbial cellulose in large vats in a laboratory and then produces clothing from it.







While she is still heavily in the research and development stage, Lee's home grown fabric is similar to vegetable leather, however it tends to absorb too much water which is a drawback she is still working on. She experiments with giving it different textures to mimic other fabrics, allowing it to be used for a wide array of garments and accessories. oh man, its kind of gross but its super inspiring and science is so amazing. Ted talks are the best things ever.
