Celine Fall 2010

I'm so glad that Pheobe Philo is designing again, and she's already managed to
bring the whole Celine brand from drab to effortlessly cool. She's my favourite
designer (along side Philly Lim),and although I'm sad her days at Chloe are
over, I'm really glad to see what she's brought to Celine. I posted some close
up detailed shots from Jak and Jil, because the mastery of her work is all
in the details.

some beautiful music:

Stella McCartney Fall 2010

Stellaaaa! Minimalism at its greatest. That is all.

song:

Balenciaga Fall 2010

I love the colour palette of this collection and specifically they way in which
the colours are used together. It takes away from any hard edges of the
futuristic looks.

and a bright little song to go with the collection:

Erdem Fall 2010

Erdem, my friend! Ok, he's not really my friend, but my friend Laura did
work for him in London and said he's a really nice guy so I'm sure we'd get along.
He also did his undergrad at Ryerson, where I went too, and he came back and
spoke to us a couple years ago. He's a great example of a down to earth designer
who loves the craft and who has definitely found his point of view. His prints
keep getting better season after season

and a song from my favourite, Patrick Watson:

Erin Featherson Fall 2010

With her muse for the collection being Nico, Erin Featherson created 70s rock
chick looks that were as breezy as they were hip. I always tend to look to the
70s for inspiration so this collection scored big points with me. I'm awaiting
the return of dramatic bell bottoms, i feel that it's coming soon....

and here's an appropriate song for all you long haired children out there:

Adam Fall 2010

Adam - I'm into the chunky sweater with the long flowy skirt, a sophisticated
"nouveau-grunge" peut-etre? and you know how I feel about grunge....
and I think the skirt at the bottom is just genius in an understated kind of way.
Well done Adam...Well done.

Between the Bars

A nice Elliott Smith Cover by Chris Garneau. Even with the background noise he sounds amazing. I like this version better than his album version.

Too AMAZING!

I'm a fan of Grizzly Bear, and I happened to come across this song that I hadn't heard before and really liked it. I then realized that its a cover of teen pop sensation Jojo's song "too little too late." I thought it was HILARIOUS and AMAZING that they covered a Jojo song, and I have to admit that I always thought Jojo's version was pretty catchy.

Here are both versions

a little sneak peek

Last weekend I did a little photoshoot/dinner party for a project I've been working on called "mumstheword". Its a mother-daughter collaboration of knitwear. My mum (yeah we're british) hand knits beautiful headbands and scarves, to which I have added removable pins made from leather, feathers, chains and other novel fun things! I am currently setting up my account on Etsy, where they will soon be available fo sale. Also part of the proceeds of all sales will be donated to Colon Cancer Canada. So here's a little sneak peek, along with some recipes from our dinner party!

Sarah Jane used her pro makeup skills.

This is some of the knitwear that will be sold on Etsy. Thank you ladies for your beautiful modeling skills.

ETSY SHOP COMING VERY SOON!!

We had a nice little dinner

Here are some recipes from dinner:
(all using non-precise measurements, and open to adding substitute ingredients...don't be afraid, just relax and experiment a little!)

Veggie Burgers!
  • 1 can of chickpeas
  • 1 can of black beans
  • 1/2 a can of lentils
  • 2 cloves of garlic- minced
  • red onions - chopped
  • chopped up portobello mushrooms
  • toasted sesame seeds
  • cumin
  • cayenne pepper
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 or 2 eggs
  • flour

mash up the beans/chickpeas/lentils and and in all of the other ingredients. Add enough flour so that everything is bound together. Get a cookie sheet and lightly sprinkle some olive oil onto it. Make the mixture into hamburger shaped patties on the cookie sheet and bake in the oven at 400 for around 20-25 minutes, flipping half way through.

Serve with your favourite toppings. We put Guacamole on ours, so here's that recipe!

Guacamelanie

I like a big huge bowl of guacamole so, i always use like 4-5 avocados.
Just chop up some garlic, some red onions and a little bit of tomatoes, splash some lime juice, salt and pepper, and fresh cilantro (I love it..but some people hate it so beware!)

These is one of the Salads we had:

Endive/Mango Salad
  • 1 Mango -just ripe
  • 1 Endive
  • Red Pepper
  • Sesame Seeds -toasted
Dressing:
  • Lime Juice
  • Sesame oil
  • honey
  • Soy sauce
  • Fish Sauce
Julienne all of the fruit/vegetables. Throw in the sesame seeds. mix together equal parts soy sauce and lime juice...add honey to taste and just add a drop of sesame oil and fish sauce. Toss the salad together. This would also be really good with cucumber added and shrimp.

I'm just gonna follow the sound...

I've been very busy working on a little project called mumstheword...more about that later! Fall 2010 fashion weeks are rolling on by. New York, London and Milan are over and we're on to Paris! Can't wait to see the new collections for Chloe, Stella and Celine. I will definitely be posting my favourite fashion week highlights along with some new recipes I've whipped up.

until then, here is a song that I sort of forgot about...just one of those feel good songs!
